Week of May 27-31, 2019


Weekly Newsletter for May 27-31, 2019

          In Reading, we will continue with our story, “Frog and Toad Together.”  We have discussed what changes happen in a garden, and revisited the skill of Author’s Purpose.  Our high frequency words are: afraid, how, again, read, few and soon.  Our test on this story will be tomorrow, Wednesday, May 29th. 
          Our focus phonics skills are endings –ed and –ing and r-controlled ar.  The spelling words for this story are: plan, planned, help, helped, drop, dropped, call, called, ask, and asked.  Our challenge words are “again” and “soon.”  Our spelling test on these words will also be tomorrow, Wednesday, May 29th.
          In Math, we will revisit skills from throughout the school year! J
          As this school year comes to a close, I would like to thank you for a great school year!  It has been a pleasure to work with your child this year!  We have learned so many new skills and made great memories!  I wish you all a safe and exciting summer vacation! J

Week of May 20-24,2019


Weekly Newsletter for May 20-24, 2019
          In Reading, we are beginning our new story, “Frog and Toad Together.”  We will discuss what changes happen in a garden, and revisit the skill of Author’s Purpose.  Our high frequency words are: afraid, how, again, read, few and soon. 
          Our focus phonics skills are endings –ed and –ing and r-controlled ar.  The spelling words for this story are: plan, planned, help, helped, drop, dropped, call, called, ask, and asked.  Our challenge words are “again” and “soon.” 
          In Math, we will continue with building graphs and interrupting the data.  We will also revisit money by identifying coins and counting the given coins.  Our test on Unit 7 will be Wednesday,    May 22nd.

Week of May 13-17, 2019


Weekly Newsletter for May 14-17, 2019

In Reading, we will continue to work on the story, “The Class Pet.”  Throughout this story we will discuss what we can learn from animals as they grow and change.  We also learned the difference between a fact and an opinion.  Our high frequency words are: very, car, away, our, house, school, and friends.  Our test on this story will be Tuesday, May 14th. 

Our focus phonics skills for this story are words with –es and r-controlled or, ore.  Our spelling words for this story are: fix, fixes, class, classes, wish, wishes, kiss, kisses, bus and buses.  Our challenge words are “friends” and “very.”  Our test on these spelling words will be Tuesday, May 14th. 

In Math, we will continue to discuss ways we can collect and show data!  Our Unit 7 test on Money and Graphs will be early next week! 

Our schedule for the upcoming week:
Monday (5/13)-Day 5- Gym  *Parent Night at the Book Fair from 4pm-7pm)
Tuesday (5/14)-Day 6- Music
Wednesday (5/15)- Day 7- Computers
Thursday (5/16)- Day 8- Art
Friday (5/17)- Day 9- Keyboarding *This is our day to shop the Book Fair!  Please send all money in an envelope labeled with your child’s name!

          In Reading, we will begin our new story, “The Class Pet.”  Throughout this story we will discuss what we can learn from animals as they grow and change.  We will also discuss the difference between a fact and an opinion.  Our high frequency words are: very, car, away, our, house, school, and friends.

          This week in Math, we will begin interpreting data and graphing our findings!  Please continue to practice math facts and coins! J 
          Our last Scholastic Book Order form was sent home last week! You may order online using our class code: MJJ8J or you may send in your book order with a check (Scholastic INC.).  All Scholastic Book orders are due Wednesday, May 8th.   Thank you for your continued support! J
