Week of April 23-27, 2018


Weekly Newsletter for April 23- 27, 2018

            This week, we will begin our new story, “I’m a Caterpillar.”   We will discuss what changes we can see in nature.  In this story, we will continue to work on the fact vs. opinion skill! 

            Our focus phonics skills for this story are r-controlled er, ir, and ur, as well as, contractions.  Our spelling words are: her, first, bird, girl, burn, were, shirt, fur, hurt, and sir.  Our challenge words include: “visit” and “done.” 

            In Math, we began a new topic!  In Topic 14, we will discuss using Data to answer questions.  Key vocabulary includes: picture graph, bar graph, tally mark, and data. 

            We are very excited to share that we earned another “BINGO” on our 100’s chart!  For this TEAMWORK reward, we are going to have a pizza party on Friday (4/27) during Snack.  Pizza, popcorn, and drinks will be provided but if your child would like to bring their own snack/drink, they are more than welcome!

*“Pink Against Bullying” dress down day!  Wear Jeans or Sweatpants with a pink shirt with a $1 donation. 
*Pizza party during snack for our TEAMWORK bingo!  If you would still like to bring your own snack and/or drink, you are more than welcome too!

Week of April 16-20, 2018


Weekly Newsletter for April 16- 20, 2018

In our new story, “Frog and Toad Together,” we will be discussing changes we see in a garden.  Throughout this story, we will also dive into authors purpose.  Our test for this story will be on Friday, April 20th. 

Our focus phonics skills for this story are words with an ending (-ed) and r-controlled ar.  Our spelling words are: plan, planned, help, helped, drop, dropped, call, called, ask, asked.  Our challenge words include: “again” and “very.”  Our spelling test on these words will also be on Friday, April 20th. 

We have learned how to read both an analog and digital clock to the hour and half hour.  Our key vocabulary includes: hour hand, hour, minute hand, minute, o’clock, half hour and schedule.  We will take our Topic 13 test on time and schedules tomorrow, April 17th. 

A friendly reminder that on Thursday, April 19th is our class field trip to Hershey Chocolate World!  Students are to wear the blue “North Schuylkill Spartans” shirt from Boosterthon and school dress-code pants/ shorts.  No jeans or sweatpants are permitted.  Also, please be sure that all lunch items are disposable.  All items will be thrown away!

Week of April 2-6, 2018


Weekly Newsletter for April 2-6, 2018

            We will begin our new story this week titled, “The Class Pet.”  Throughout our story we will be discussing how we can learn about animals as they grow and change.  We will also begin discussing the difference between fact and opinion and identifying a fact vs. opinion. 

            Our focus phonics skills for this story are words with –es and r-controlled (or, ore).  Our spelling words are: fix, fixes, class, classes, wish, wishes, kiss, kisses, bus, buses.  Our challenge words include: “friends” and “very.” 

            In Math, we are continuing to discuss length by answering how objects can be measured, compared and ordered by length.  Vocabulary for this topic includes: longest, shortest, taller, shorter, estimate and measure.  Our test for Topic 12 will be on Thursday, April 5th. 

            Attached is our April Scholastic book order forms!  Each student has received “a special gift” coupon from Scholastic that provides them with a free book with a $5 purchase!  As always, you may order online using our class code: MJJ8J or by sending in cash or check (Scholastic Inc.) along with your order slip!  If you are interested in ordering from Scholastic, all orders are due by Friday, April 13th.    

            We are so excited to share that our field trip to Hershey Chocolate World is approaching!  Our class will be attending the field trip on Thursday, April 19th.  Please check your student’s Friday Folder for a permission form as well as important information!
