Week of January 28- February 1, 2019


Weekly Newsletter for January 28- February 1, 2019

          Due to the schedule changes last week, our Reading test for “The Farmer and the Hat” will now be tomorrow, January 29th.  We completed our Spelling test on the long a sound and c/s/ and g /j/ sound today! 
          In Math, we will continue to work on identifying numbers that are 1 more/ 1 less and 10 more/ 10 less.  We will also continue to compare numbers!  Please listen for key vocabulary such as: “greater than” and “less than!” 
          In Grammar, we will begin to work on common and proper nouns!

Tuesday (1/29)- Day 2- Computers- *Report Cards will be sent home today!

Week of January 14-18, 2019


Weekly Newsletter for January 14- 18, 2019

          In Reading, we will begin our new story, “The Farmer in the Hat.”  We will discuss how a school is a community as well as revisit the skill of cause and effect.  Our high frequency words for this story are: could, be, old, paper, of, and horse.
 
            Our focus phonics skills are the long a sound and consonants c/s/ and g /j/. Our spelling words are face, made, age, safe, make, take, cage, cake, late, and name.  Our challenge words are “could” and “old.” 

            In Math, we will continue to focus on place value!  This week, we will work on building numbers with tens and ones as well as showing different ways to show a number (digit, tens and ones, written form and expanded form). 

            In your child’s B.E.E. folder, you will see a “Math Fact” envelope.  We have been working VERY hard on our math facts.  Students will continue to add flashcards to their envelope.  Please continue to practice these facts with your child at home!

January Scholastic Book order forms were sent home last week!  You may order online using our class code: MJJ8J or you may send in your book order with a check (Scholastic INC.).  All Scholastic Book orders are due this Friday, January 18th.

Week of January 7-11, 2019


Weekly Newsletter for January 7-11, 2019

            We will have our reading test for the story, “A Big Fish for Max,” on Wednesday, January 9th.  Our high frequency words for this story are: want, catch, no, said, good and put. 

            Our focus phonics skills for this story are consonant digraphs sh and th, as well as the vowel sound a, al in ball.  Our spelling words are fish, then, shut, with, rush, shell, shop, trash, thin, and ship.  Our challenge words are “want” and “good.”  Our Spelling Test on these words will be on Wednesday, January 9th. 

            In Math, we are discussing place value!  Last week we discussed about creating a group of ten and counting the “extras” or “ones.”  This week, we will continue to create groups of ten and begin to discuss comparing place value with greater than, less than and equal to!  We are also continuing to practice our addition facts to 20! J

As a class, we love to read and listen to stories!  It is very important that kids hear fluent reading and activate comprehension strategies.  One way we can practice these skills is by having guest readers come into our classroom!  If any parent/ grandparent/ guardian would like to come into our class, please let me know by writing me a note, email or Class Dojo message!

Week of January 2-4, 2019


Weekly Newsletter for January 2- 4, 2019

          Welcome back and Happy New Year!  I hope everyone had a safe and relaxing break! J 

We will continue with our story, “Big Fish for Max” and talk about what a family does together.  We will also discuss identifying the sequence of a story.  Our high frequency words for this story are: said, want, good, catch, no and put.  Our Reading Test for this story will be on Wednesday, January 9th.

            We will begin Unit 4 in Math this week!  Throughout this Unit, we will be discussing place value We will first start by identifying groups of tens!
