Weekly Newsletter for January
7-11, 2019
We will have our reading test for
the story, “A Big Fish for Max,” on Wednesday, January 9th. Our high frequency words for this story are:
want, catch, no, said, good and put.
Our focus phonics skills for this
story are consonant digraphs sh and th, as well as the vowel sound a, al in
ball. Our spelling words are fish, then,
shut, with, rush, shell, shop, trash, thin, and ship. Our challenge words are “want” and
“good.” Our Spelling Test on these words
will be on Wednesday, January 9th.
In Math, we are discussing place
value! Last week we discussed about
creating a group of ten and counting the “extras” or “ones.” This week, we will continue to create groups
of ten and begin to discuss comparing place value with greater than, less than
and equal to! We are also continuing to
practice our addition facts to 20! J
As a class, we love to read and listen to stories! It is
very important that kids hear fluent reading and activate comprehension
strategies. One way we can practice these skills is by having guest
readers come into our classroom! If any parent/ grandparent/ guardian
would like to come into our class, please let me know by writing me a note,
email or Class Dojo message!
Attached you will find our January Scholastic Book order
forms! You may order online using our

your book order with a check (Scholastic INC.).
