Weekly Newsletter for May 28- June 1, 2018

          Throughout the week, we will revisit important phonics and literacy skills that we covered this school year.  We will also continue to discuss two-digit addition in Math! 

          Our last AR reading logs will be collected on Wednesday, May 30th.  Please be sure to sign and return your reading log by this day to receive credit for the month of May!

As our school year comes to a close, I would like to take this time to thank you all for a wonderful school year!  It has been a joy to have each and every one of your children in our class this year!  We have learned so much this school year and worked as a TEAM every day!  Have a happy and safe summer!  J

Week of May 21-25, 2018


Weekly Newsletter for May 21-25, 2018

          We are continuing to dive into our story, “Mama’s Birthday Present!”  Throughout this story, we are discussing how a surprise can be a treasure.  We are focusing on how to draw conclusions from the text.  Our test on this story will be on Thursday, May 24th. 

Our focus phonics skills for this story are the vowel team ai and ay and singular and plural possessives.  Our spelling words for this story are train, way, tail, play, day, may, rain, gray, and mail.  Our challenge words are, “about” and “would.”  Our test for these spelling words will be on Thursday, May 24th. 

In Math, we are continuing to discuss adding double digit numbers.  Last week, we learned how to regroup the ones column to create a new ten!

All library book circulation has ended for this school year.  All library books are due back by Monday, May 21st.  If you have any library books still at home, please return them to school as soon as possible!  Thank you! 

Last week, our last Scholastic book flyers were sent home.  To ensure that books will arrive before the summer break, all orders are due no later than Thursday, May 24th!    You can order online using our class code (MJJ8J) or return your book order form with cash or check (Scholastic INC.) to me by Thursday.  Thank you for your support in Scholastic!

Weekly Newsletter for May 14- 18, 2018

          We are taking our test on our story, “Where Are My Animal Friends?” on Monday, May 14th.  We will then begin our next story, “Mama’s Birthday Present.”  Throughout this story, we will discuss how a surprise could be a treasure.  We will continue to work on drawing conclusions from the text.

Week of May 7-11, 2018


Weekly Newsletter for May 7- May 11, 2018

          We are beginning our story, “Where Are My Animal Friends?” in Reading.  Throughout this story, we will discuss what animals do when the seasons change.  As a class, we will also be working on drawing conclusions from our text.  Our test for this story will be Monday, May 14th. 

          Our focus phonics skills for this story are comparative endings –er, -est and the ending –dge.  Our spelling words are: faster, fastest, taller, tallest, shorter, shortest, sadder, saddest, bigger and biggest.  Our challenge words include: “good-bye” and “before.”  Our spelling test will also be on Monday, May 14th. 

          We are beginning our new topic in Math today!  In Topic 10, we will be discussing adding with tens and ones. 

          Since our school year is beginning to wind down, we wanted to be sure to celebrate everyone’s birthday!  Each of our summer month birthday kiddos were assigned a “birthday day” during the month of May!  I will send home a note with your child if they are a June/ July/ August birthday, to let you know which day we will celebrate them!  If you would like to send in cupcakes or cookies on your day, you are more than welcome!  We have a total of 23 students in our class!
