Weekly Newsletter for February 25- March 1, 2019

          In Reading, we will begin our new story “The Big Circle.”  We will discuss how animal communities will work together to survive.  We will also discuss the sequence of a story!  Our high frequency words are: down, there, inside, together, and now. 

          Our focus phonics skills for this story are the long O sound and contractions.  Our spelling words are home, hope, rose, woke, those, bone, hose, joke, rode and smile.  Our challenge words are: “there” and “together.”

          In Math, we are continuing to learn about shapes.  This week we will learn about 3D shapes and discuss their attributes!  Listen for key vocabulary words such as surfaces, edges and vertices!

          This Friday, March 1^st, we will have our monthly PBIS reward day!  With your permission, students are allowed to bring games in to play!  Students will keep their games in their cubby until it is time for the reward.  Please be sure all games are school appropriate!  Thank you! J

Weekly Newsletter for February 18- 22, 2019

          Our Reading Test for the story, “Who Works Here!” is now scheduled for Tuesday, February 19^th. Our high frequency words for this story are live, out, people, who and work. 

          Our Spelling Test for the long I sound and digraphs wh, ch, tch, and ph is also scheduled for Tuesday, February 19^th.  Our spelling words are like, ride, smile, time, white, bike, dime, hide, ice and kite.  The challenge words are: “who” and “work.” 

          In Math, we will continue to work she shapes and fractions!  We are currently sorting shapes by properties, and using shapes to build new ones!  Please continue to practice your Math Facts in your B.E.E. folder! J

Weekly Newsletter for February 11-15, 2019

          In Reading, we began the story, “Who Works Here!”  Throughout the story, we have been discussing people who work in our community to make it a better place!  Our high frequency words for this story are live, out, people, who and work.  Our test on this story will be on Friday, February 15^th. 

Our focus phonics skills for this story are the long I sound and digraphs wh, ch, tch, and ph.  Our spelling words are like, ride, smile, time, white, bike, dime, hide, ice and kite.  The challenge words are: “who” and “work.”  Our Spelling test for these words will be on Friday, February 15^th. 

In Math, we will begin Unit 5 Geometry and Fractions!  This week we will categories shapes, see how they are similar and different and build our Math vocabulary! 

On Friday, February 15^th we will be having our Valentine’s Day party!  Students may bring in valentines/ treats for each student if you wish!  There are 19 students total in our class!  A list of names of the students in our class was sent home last week! J 

February Scholastic Book order forms were sent home last week!  You may order online using our class code: MJJ8J or you may send in your book order with a check (Scholastic INC.).  All Scholastic Book orders are due Wednesday, February 13th.

Weekly Newsletter for February 4- 8, 2019

            We will begin our new story, “Who Works Here?” in Reading this week!  We will discuss who works to make our community a nice place.  We will also discuss the Author’s Purpose of the story.  Our high frequency words are people, live, work, who, and out. 

            Our focus phonics skills for this story are the long I sound and digraphs wh, ch, tch, and ph.  Our spelling words are like, ride, smile, time, white, bike, dime, hide, ice and kite.  The challenge words are: “who” and “work.” 

            In Math, we will continue to work on identifying numbers that 1 more and 1 less and 10 more and 10 less.  We will continue to compare numbers by representing the given numbers with base ten blocks.  Our test for Unit 4 will be Thursday, February 7^th. 

            On Friday, February 15^th we will be having our Valentine’s Day party!  Students may bring in valentines/ treats for each student if you wish!  There are 19 students total in our class!  A list of names of the students in our class will be sent home this week! J
