Week of October 8-12, 2018

Weekly Newsletter for October 8- 12, 2018

In Reading, we will dive into our new story, “The Big Blue Ox.”  We will be discussing ways that animals help people.  We will also be focusing on identifying the character and setting of a story!  Our sight words for this story are: blue, help, little, from, use, and get.

Our focus phonics skills for this story are short o and plural –s; consonant s/z/.  The spelling words for this story are: hot, hop, pot, pop, ox, lock, mop, got, rock, and mom.  The challenge words are “help” and “use.”

We are also continuing to practice our handwriting!  We are watching for a “writer’s eye” when writing.  We look for a capital letter to begin our sentence, lower case letters throughout our sentence, finger spaces between words, and punctuation at the end of our sentence.  We check our sentence at the end to make sure it is a complete thought!

In Math, we are beginning Unit 2!  Throughout this unit we will focus on addition and subtraction.  Listen for our key vocabulary words such as: join, separate, sum, difference and equal.
