Week of October 23-27, 2017

Weekly Newsletter for October 23-27, 2017
This week in Reading, we are continuing to discuss how animals can help people!  We are identifying the characters and setting within our story, “Big Blue Ox.”  Our test for this story will be Wednesday, October 25th!  We will complete this test together while discussing good test-taking strategies!

Our spelling words for this week are: hot, hop, pot, pop, ox, lock, mop, got, rock, and mom.  Our challenge words are “help” and “use.”  The phonics focus skills for this story are the short o, and the plural –s.  Please continue to practice these spelling words nightly with your child!  Our spelling test on these words will also be Wednesday, October 25th

In Math, we are discussing how to identify and create numbers within a ten-frame.  We are also looking at the relationship between 5 and 10 within the ten-frame.  For example, “7” within the ten-frame is 5 with 2 more, or it can be 10 minus 3.  Our test on Topic 3 will be on Thursday, October 26th

Please continue to encourage your child to practice their reading at home!   Document your child’s reading on their AR paper that can be found in their OWL folder!  Students that complete the October AR paper (15 spaces or more) will receive a Pizza Hut book-it coupon!
