Week of October 2- 6, 2017

Weekly Newsletter for October 2-6, 2017

This week, our students are working on the S.P.AR.T.Y rule of Teamwork!  We will continue to discuss and show ways we can be a good team member of our classroom and school.  This rule really connects with our 100’s chart for teamwork.  Our students have been working so hard to collect those 100’s chart points and are SO close to winning a celebration!

Our spelling words for the story are: six, lip, in, wig, it, did, mix, sit, pin and fix.  Our challenge words are: “she” and “take.”  Our focus phonics skill for this story is the short I sound.  Our spelling test for this story will be on Thursday, October 5th

In Reading, we are continuing to discuss the literary elements of characters and setting.  We are discussing as a class who helps animals and how we can help them!  Our test for our story, Pig in a Wig will be on Thursday, October 5th.  Again, we will take this test together, and discuss good test-taking strategies.

A new Accelerated Reader (AR) paper will be sent home for the month of October this week!  Students are building a strong reading foundation by practicing reading books on their level!  Kiddos that complete the October AR paper this month will receive a Pizza Hut book-it coupon!

In Math, we are continuing to discuss subtraction!  Listen for key vocabulary terms such as: minus sign, equal sign, difference, and subtraction sentence!
